Asset Returned Automation

Description

Asset Returned Automation triggers when a previously missing asset is detected again in the location (campus). This complements the Asset Missing automation by:

• Confirming asset recovery

• Updating asset status from "Missing" to "Returned"

• Notifying stakeholders that the issue is resolved

How It Works:

1. Background Process: System checks for previously missing assets

2. Detection: If missing asset is detected again (active BLE signal), it's marked as returned

3. Alert Trigger: System triggers "Asset Returned" event

4. Automation Actions: Configured actions are executed (notifications, ticket closure, etc.)

Filtering Options:

• Segment Filter: Only monitor assets with specific tags

• Custom Condition: Filter by MAC address or asset name

When to Use

• Customer wants confirmation when missing equipment is found

• Hospital needs to update inventory systems when assets return

• Facility wants to close tickets automatically when assets are recovered

• Organization needs audit trail for asset recovery

Dependencies & Requirements

• Asset Presence Aggregation: Must be enabled (same as Asset Missing)

• Location Tracking Engine: External location engine providing BLE data

• Missing Asset Record: Asset must have been previously marked as missing

Configuration Steps

Step 1: Create Asset Returned Automation

1. Navigate to Workflow > Automations

2. Click "Create New Automation"

3. Configure Trigger:

   • Select trigger: "Asset Returned"

4. Configure Conditions:

   • Segment: Select tag/segment to monitor (same as Asset Missing automation)

   • Duration: Same duration as Asset Missing automation

   • Custom Condition (optional): Filter by MAC or name

5. Add Actions:

   • Send Email/SMS:

     • Notify stakeholders that asset has been recovered

     • Include asset name, location, time returned

   • Update External System:

     • Close ticket in ticketing system

     • Update inventory system

     • Webhook to facility management system

   • Log Event:

     • Record asset return for audit trail

6. Save the automation

Troubleshooting

Issue: Return alerts not triggering

• Check: Asset was previously marked as missing

• Check: Asset Presence Aggregation is enabled

• Check: Asset is now actively broadcasting (BLE tag working)

• Check: Segment tag matches Asset Missing automation

Issue: Return alert triggers too quickly

• Check: Duration threshold matches Asset Missing automation

• Check: Asset is actually back in the location (not just temporary signal)
