Hotspot 2.0 (Passpoint) is a technology that allows users to move seamlessly and securely between Wi-Fi networks, similar to how cellular roaming works. It eliminates the need for users to manually search for networks or re-enter passwords.
What is Hotspot 2.0 and the OSU Server?
Hotspot 2.0: Provides automatic authentication using WPA2/WPA3 security.
OSU (Online Sign-Up) Server: The server responsible for securely delivering the Passpoint profile to the device.
Why is it necessary?
Operating systems like iOS do not allow direct profile downloads due to security protocols. Instead, they redirect the user to an OSU URL, where the device fetches the provisioning configuration.
Configuration and Onboarding Settings
The fields in the System Settings > Onboarding > Hotspot 2.0 tab of the Starling Wi-Fi Dashboard are populated with settings from the defined SSID configuration.
