Configuring Aruba APs for IPERA Location Engine

This guide will instruct you on how to configure Aruba Instant Access Points (APs) to forward Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) data for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and Wi-Fi devices to a server running the IPera Location Engine.

Prerequisites

• Aruba Instant APs running AOS 8.8 or higher.
• Admin login credentials for the Aruba controller.

Step 1: Connect to the Aruba Controller

Connect and log in to the Aruba controller over a local network using the admin login credentials.

Step 2: Configure the IoT Transport Stream

A transport stream defines what data is forwarded, where, and how. In this case, it determines which ambient BLE/Wi-Fi data is sent to the IPera Location Engine via Websocket.

Step 2.1: Create a new transport stream

From the admin page, navigate to Configuration > Services.

In the main window, select the IoT option.

In the IoT Transports table, click on the + icon to create a new transport stream.

Step 2.2: Configure the transport stream

In the new transport stream popup, input the following details:

• Name: iperaTransportStream
• Enabled: Yes
• Server type: Telemetry Websocket
• Server URL: ws://46.31.147.116:3001/ipera
• Authentication method: Token
• Access token: df231144dcd4b
• Transport services: BLE Data, Wi-fi Data
• Reporting interval: 10 seconds
• RSSI reporting format: Last
• Environment type: Office
• Wi-fi devices: WiFi RTLS Tags, WiFi Associated Stations, WiFi Unassociated Stations
• Reporting interval: 10 seconds

Once these details have been entered, click OK and then Save to complete the transport stream configuration.

Step 3: Configure the IoT Radio Profile

A radio profile defines which low-power wireless radios will be enabled on the AP as well as their configuration. This profile will be used to enable the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio on the AP.

Step 3.1: Create a new radio profile

From the admin page, navigate to Configuration > Services.

In the main window, select the IoT option.

In the IoT Radio Profiles table, click on the + icon to create a new radio profile.

Step 3.2: Configure the radio profile

In the new radio profile popup, input the following details:

• Name: iperaRadio
• State: Enabled
• Radio: Internal
• Radio mode: BLE
• BLE operational mode: Both
• Console: Off
• Tx Power: 0 dBm

Once these details have been entered, click OK and then Save to complete the radio profile configuration.
